Tiger Brands a Top Employer for 7th consecutive year

Tiger Brands has been named a Top Employer in South Africa for the 7th consecutive year by the Top Employers Institute.

The company says it is honoured to receive the consistent recognition, more significant as it celebrates its centenary year.

“South Africa has an incredible, diverse talent base sought-after globally and organisations such as Tiger Brands, who have a rich history of participation in the local economy spanning more than 100 years, need to do all they can to attract, retain and grow the best people who are passionate about improving consumers’ lives. Employees want to work for an organisation that puts people first, and at Tiger Brands we put all of our efforts into creating an environment where our talented people are at the centre of our continued business success,” says S’ne Magagula, Chief HR Officer, Tiger Brands.

“The recognition bears testament to the strength of our employer brand and its ability to attract great people who contribute to shaping our iconic brands.”

In its certification, the Top Employers Institute, which recognises excellence in people practices, noted Tiger Brands’ “commitment and focus on people at the heart of its success’ and for “creating an environment that is inspiring, diverse and nurturing.”

Tiger Brands was measured against HR Best Practice in the domains of – Steer, Shape, Attract, Develop, Engage and Unite, scoring in the top percentile in each category.

“Our efforts are focused on creating a special place to work that ignites our people to bring their A-game to how they contribute individually and collaborate to deliver on our purpose of ‘nourishing and nurturing more lives every day’,” says Magagula.

In 2020, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Tiger Brands took the opportunity to further refine its people strategy with a sharpened focus on executing a targeted approach to strengthening people engagement and culture, developing agile cross-functional teams to drive innovation, diversity and inclusion, employee wellbeing, and enabling its people to adapt to new and more hybrid ways of working in response to the changes brought on by the pandemic.

Through its THRIVE employee wellbeing programme, the company initiated an onsite Covid-19 vaccination and support programme at its over 40 sites.

“The heartbeat of Tiger Brands is certainly our people. It is a great honour that this recognition comes as we celebrate 100 years of delivering leading food, personal and home-care brands to homes across South Africa and the continent. It’s a reminder that we would never have become the force that we are today, had we not placed a premium on creating a great place to work where our people can grow, thrive and innovate,” says Magagula.
